Now that it’s pretty much confirmed the Mayans were wrong we wanted to take a moment to say thank you to the thousands of people who have made it out to Syracuse Shows in 2012. We couldn’t do this with out your support and we do our very best to bring you the shows that you want to see. We have big plans for 2013 and we’re kicking the year off right with some stellar shows that will knock your socks off.

We hope all of you have a happy holiday. Be Safe, be smart and we’ll see you in 2013!

Happy Birthday Syracuse Shows!!!

12 years ago today SyracuseShows.com promoted its first show in Syracuse. I went to my first Syracuse Show in 2004, and joined the staff in August 2005. Since then I’ve gladly pushed gear, bought water, manned the door, picked up bands, dropped off bands, designed flyers, websites, tweeted, shot photos and a slew of other jobs for Matt. Along with me, his incredible staff of Scooter, Brian, Ben, and Tom Harris have worked long days in scorching heat and bitter cold to help Matt put these shows together.

None of us would do it if we didn’t believe in bringing quality shows to Syracuse, but more important helping Matt live his dream of booking shows for the community he grew up in. I know for a fact that nothing makes Matt happier than being able to bring shows to people in Syracuse. Since it’s SyracuseShows 12th anniversary (and Matt’s birthday) I wanted to take a minute to thank him.

I’ve developed a fond friendship with Matt in the last 7 years, as such I consider him a brother which is why he stood with me and my other brother on wedding day. I’ve celebrated with him when there have been memorable shows, and I have struggled with him when the few times a show wouldn’t go right. He’s stayed on the phone with me on my drive home to Buffalo so neither of us would fall asleep behind the wheel and he’s always taken a vested interest in my life outside of ‘working shows.’

I know that all Matt wants to do is book shows that people will like. I know that if he wanted to book for a conglomerate in big venues that didn’t have a personal touch, he could. I love that he chooses to book small local show and bring in bands that probably should be playing larger venues. I respect that he’s willing to put so much on the line to bring shows to Syracuse because the level of uncertainty with a show is so high – There is no slam dunk when booking bands. We all know that while one band is selling out a 10,000 seat venue this month, in eight months they may be playing in front of 100 kids in Iowa – music business in 2012.

I mention all of this because I think it takes a special type of person to put so much on the line to provide for so many, it’s admirable. With that said, I know Matt loves promoting in Syracuse and I know that he really enjoys hearing about your memories at a Syracuse Show. I can think of no better gift than to ask people to share their favorite experience at one of our shows, let’s see them below or on our facebook page.
